The Brazilian Super Star Neymar Jnr on Monday ended his injury plagued his 18 months and few weeks stay in Saudi Arabia as his club, Al Hilal said they had "agreement together to terminate the player's contract by mutual consent". The whole club and team expresses its thanks and deeply appreciate Neymar for what he has provided throughout his best performance at Al-Hilal, and wished the player the very best success in his career, "said the club statement posted on social media.

What Transpired

Despite reportedly earning roughly $104 million annually, the 32-year-old forward, a former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player, has only appeared in seven games since joining the team in August 2023.

Neymar joined Al-Hilal in August 2023 after being the subject of what remains the largest transfer in football history when he moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for a fee of 220 million euros ($230 million at the time).

He went to the lucrative Saudi league after fellow superstars Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. He played for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier in October 2023, but two months after arriving in Riyadh, he tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee, causing him to miss a year of action.

After making two fleeting outings for Al Hilal in October and November, he suffered a hamstring injury and hasn't played since. He stated that the World Cup is his goal.

"He can no longer play at the level we are used to," the club's coach, Jorge Jesus, recently stated. Unfortunately, things have grown challenging for him.

Neymar stated earlier in January that he intended to play in the US, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.

The Superior Picture

Neymar Jr. made headlines recently with the news of ending his contract with Al-Hilal, the Saudi Arabian football club he joined in the summer of 2023. The decision to part ways came after a series of reports suggesting that Neymar wasn’t happy with the club's management, as well as some tensions over playing conditions and personal expectations not being fully met.

Although the specifics behind the decision haven't been fully revealed, there were rumors that Neymar was seeking a move back to Europe, potentially back to a top European club or even considering returning to Brazil. His brief time in Saudi Arabia was marked by some high-profile appearances and goals, but it seems he struggled to find a rhythm with the team, possibly due to issues with team dynamics or a desire for a more competitive environment.

Neymar’s move to Al-Hilal had been a major one in the football world, as it marked a significant shift of top-tier talent to the Saudi Pro League, a league gaining international attention with the influx of players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. As of now, his next move remains uncertain, with many speculating that he might return to a European league.

What Next for Neymar Jnr Leaving Al-Hilal
